Defect description

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2019 AMG GT53 and AMG GT63 vehicles. In certain types of crash events, the center console may unlatch, allowing the storage compartment to open. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 201, "Occupant Protection in Interior Impact."

Safety risk

A center console that opens during a crash can allow unsecured cargo to eject into the cabin, increasing the risk of injury.

Manufacturer remedy

Dealers will replace the front center console storage compartment, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 3, 2023. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2023010008.
