Defect description

THE SPLINED COUPLING BETWEEN THE STEERING COLUMN AND STEERING BOX COULD DEVELOP INTERNAL CORROSION DUE TO ITS EXPOSED POSITION AND CHARACTERISTICS. CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: PROLONGED USE OF THE CAR COULD CAUSE DETERIORATION OF THE COUPLING, VIBRATIONS IN THE STEERING SYSTEM, AND HANDLING DIFFICULTY WHICH COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT.

Manufacturer remedy

REPLACE THE STEERING PINION EXTENSION WITH A NEW PREGREASED PART INSTALLED WITH A NEW BOLT.
