Defect description

THESE VEHICLES CAN EXPERIENCE AN ACCUMULATION OF HYDROGEN IN THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT WHICH, IF AN IGNITION SOURCE WERE PRESENT, CAN IGNITE.

Safety risk

THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE THE IGNITION GAS TO IGNITE RESULTING IN DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE AND THE INCREASED POTENTIAL FOR OCCUPANT INJURY.

Manufacturer remedy

GM HAS MODIFIED THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT VENT AND HAS ALSO INSPECTED THE BATTERY PACKS ON ALL VEHICLES FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF GAS LEAKAGE FROM THE BATTERIES.
