Defect description

ON CERTAIN SCHOOL BUSES, AN INCORRECT BRAKE PEDAL WAS INSTALLED, LEADING TO MISALIGNMENT. MISALIGNMENT, IN CONJUNCTION WITH A FORCE ACTUATED BRAKE SWITCH, CAN CAUSE DELAYED BRAKE LIGHT ACTIVATION DURING LIGHT BRAKING APPLICATIONS. IN SOME LIGHT BRAKING SITUATIONS, THE VEHICLE CAN COME TO A COMPLETE STOP WITHOUT ACTIVATION OF THE BRAKE LIGHTS.

Safety risk

IF THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT ACTIVATE PROPERLY UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, IT COULD LEAD TO A CRASH.

Manufacturer remedy

INTERNATIONAL WILL NOTIFY ITS CUSTOMERS AND REPLACE THE INCORRECT BRAKE PEDAL WITH THE CORRECT VERSION FREE OF CHARGE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MAY 21, 2004. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT INTERNATIONAL AT 800-448-7825.
